Learn the moves
How to be an AI Director
To direct AI, you pick the goal, you give the facts, and you check the result before you use it. The AI does the typing.
Next step: pick one move below and open one guide.
These moves help you learn and finish real tasks. For school, they do not do the homework. Follow your teacher's rules.
Give context
Context means the facts only you know. The chat cannot see your life unless you paste them.
- Update your resume with AI without inventing a career
- Run a job search with a weekly plan, not a tab pile
- Turn meeting notes into action items
- Make a monthly budget from the numbers you already have
- Run a monthly budget check-in with numbers you type
- Plan a week of meals from what's already in your fridge
Set the role
A role is who the chat should act as. A tutor acts differently from a friend.
Show an example
An example shows what good looks like. Paste one real sample. Ask for more like that.
- Get the right Excel or Google Sheets formula by describing what you want
- Turn lecture notes into flashcards you can actually answer
- Practice a language with AI at your level
- Write a weekly status update your manager will actually read
- Compare two products before you buy either one
- Redesign a room with AI using a photo and a real budget
Ask it to check its work
Ask the chat to mark what it is unsure about. Then you look too.
Break big tasks into steps
A huge ask gets a messy answer. Do the first small step. Then ask for the next.
Iterate with feedback
Iterate means try again. Say what was wrong, in one sentence, and ask for a new version.
Verify facts
Verify means you check the facts. A sure tone is not the same as a true fact.
- Plan cheap-flight options and a road trip, then check the prices
- Find a restaurant with Meta AI right inside Instagram or WhatsApp
- Summarize a long report without missing the point
- Use Copilot in Word and PowerPoint when the button is there
- Write a polite complaint letter that asks for one clear thing
- Turn a long practice quiz into the core concepts you need to learn
Level up: if the tools are new, start with day 1. Then come back and use one move on a real task.
