Plan cheap-flight options and a road trip, then check the prices
To look for cheap flights or a road trip with AI, ask for date ranges, nearby airports, and a driving route. Confirm every price on an airline or map site. The chat does not know today's fare unless you are looking at a search.
Next step: do Step 1. Copy the box, fill in the blanks, and paste it into the chat.
A prompt is the message you paste. A Director check is a short look before you use the result.
What you'll need
- Where you want to end up, and where you will start
- A date range, not only one perfect weekend
- A budget number you chose, if you have one. Do not ask the chat to invent a "cheap" price
Once the dates are real, plan the days on Plan a trip itinerary. This page stops at how you get there.
Step 1: Ask for options, not a booking
Help me look for a cheaper way to travel. Do not invent fares. If you do not have a live search result in front of you, write "check this" instead of a price.
From: [city]
To: [city or region]
Date flexibility: [a month, or specific weeks]
Who is going: [number]
I prefer: [flying, driving, or either]
Airports I can use: [or "I do not know"]
Give me:
1. A few date ranges that are often less busy, labeled as general patterns, not as a promise
2. Nearby airports worth comparing, if this is a flight
3. If this is a drive, a simple route with overnight stops a tired driver could use
4. The exact searches I should run myself, written as "from / to / dates"
Do not tell me a flight costs a specific amount.
Step 2: Run the searches yourself
Open Google Flights, the airline's site, or a map. Use the searches from the list. Write down the fares and drive times you actually see.
If your chat has a search switch, you can turn it on and ask it to look. Open every link. A number without a page you opened is not a fare.
Step 3: Narrow with the prices you found
Here are prices and times I found myself:
[paste the options, with the site you saw them on]
My budget: [number or "the cheapest one I am willing to book"]
I will not: [red-eye, more than X hours of driving a day, a layover under 45 minutes]
Rank only these options. Do not add a new fare.
Tell me which cancellation rule I should read before I pay.
Step 4: Book it yourself, then plan the days
Buy on the airline or the company that will actually take you. Read the change fee in their words. After you have dates, move to Plan a trip itinerary for the days, the food, and the packing list. Do not ask this chat to rebuild that.
Common mistakes
- Treating "cheap" as a fare. Cheap is a comparison you saw.
- Booking a 5 a.m. departure the chat liked and you will miss.
- Letting a road-trip plan drive 14 hours because it looked efficient on a map.
- Skipping the itinerary page and also skipping this one, so you have two half plans. Pick the job. This page is the trip to the place. The other page is the days there.
Privacy: what not to paste
You do not need to paste passport numbers, a card number, or a confirmation code into the chat. City names and dates are enough. Do not upload a boarding pass that shows a traveler number. When you book, type payment on the airline's site, not into the chat.
Director check: look before you use it
- Did you see the fare on a site you trust? If not, it is not a fare.
- Can you live with the hours? A cheap ticket you will miss is not cheap.
- Is the drive day short enough? If you would not do it tired, cut a stop.
- Did you read the cancellation rule on the airline's page? The chat's summary does not count.
One extra tip
For a drive, ask the chat only for a backup stop if a road closes, then check that town on a map. Weather and road closures change. Look them up the day you leave. More home and travel guides are on the Life hub.
Common questions
Can AI see live fares?
Not by default. Some chats can search the web if you turn search on, and even then a fare is real only when you see it on the airline or on a site like Google Flights. Treat any price in the chat as a guess until you do.
How is this different from the trip itinerary page?
That page builds the days once you know you are going, and it leaves flights out on purpose. This page is the earlier question: when to go, which airport, or which driving route. Use that page after you have dates. Do not rebuild the packing list here.
Will it book the ticket?
No. You book on the airline or a site you trust, and you read the cancellation rule before you pay.
