Get honest feedback on your essay (without AI writing it)

What you'll need

• Your own draft (even a rough one)
• The assignment instructions or grading rubric

Step 1: Ask for feedback, not a rewrite

Act as a strict but encouraging writing teacher. Here is the assignment and rubric: [paste].
Here is my draft: [paste].
Do NOT rewrite my essay or write new sentences for me.
Instead:
1. Score it against each rubric item with one sentence of reasoning.
2. Point out my 3 biggest weaknesses, quoting the exact sentences.
3. Ask me 3 questions that would help me strengthen my argument.

Step 2: Answer the questions yourself

The questions are where the learning happens. Write your answers, then use them to revise your draft in your own words.

Step 3: Check one paragraph at a time

Here's my revised paragraph. Is my point clearer than before? What's still vague? Don't rewrite it.

If you do not have a draft yet, do not ask for feedback. Start with Brainstorm and outline an essay, write the draft yourself, then come back.

Director check: look before you use it

• Is every sentence still yours? If you copied wording from the AI, rewrite it.
• Is the feedback actually right? AI can misread your argument. Push back if you disagree and explain why.
• Are you following your class's AI policy? Some teachers want you to disclose AI feedback. When in doubt, ask.
